PROVO– Cougar faithful packed the Marriott Center to watch their teams in action for the biggest Boomshakalaka turnout the players had ever seen.
“This year’s was awesome,” Jake Toolson said. “… I mean we did it in the Marriott Center this year… they had all the smoke show.”
The players noticed it’s getting better every year. Compared to last season, Corbin Kaufusi said, “It was a lot different. A lot different because there’s so much more space, but I was impressed with the amount of people that came.”
After a skills competition, the sharpshooters hit the court and showed off their range. Jake Toolson and Lexi Rydalch made it rain as they ran away with the three-point contest.
Toolson said Boomshakalaka is a great showcase for the squad. “I think that’s what we wanted to get out of this is just to get out here and show our new team… the new look of our team and just have fun with the fans,” he said.
When Corbin Kaufusi, the dunking contest champion, was asked how the year would turn out he said, “It’s gonna be a good season. You gotta wait and see.”
The men’s team starts their pre-season tonight against Arizona Christian, and the women play next Thursday against Fort Lewis College.
