PROVO–Whether you’re old, young, or even a dog, making the mile long hike up Y mountain can take its toll. William Bachler made his last journey up when he was a senior at BYU in 1961. He said today, it’s not quite as easy as it used to be.
“A little more difficult… there’s not as much air up here right now as there was then before,” Bachler said.
Back in the day, oil soaked mattress stuffing was hauled up to light light the Y. Today, it’s as easy as screwing in a lightbulb.
Lighting the Y isn’t the only popular Homecoming event–the True Blue Foam is becoming a staple. This slip n’ slide started about 20 years ago, and on Wednesday Cougar fans lined up for a chance to try the foam themselves.
“I heard about it last year and I was just like what the heck is this? You guys are just covered in blue!” said Austin Buchheit. “It was just a blast. A world of foam going around you.”
While BYU campus has changed over the years, the old Homecoming hike and the new tradition of the slip n’ slide make the Homecoming football game that much better.
There’s still the pancake breakfast tomorrow morning at 8:30 and the Homecoming parade at 10.
