PROVO– Rachel Boaz is more than just BYU’s new goal keeper–she’s a ball stopping brick wall who didn’t always plan on playing as a Cougar.
While some Cougar athletes transfer across the country to play in Provo, others put playing on pause for a couple years to serve a mission. Few do both.
Rachel Boaz started with two seasons at San Diego State before making the decision to postpone school and serve a mission. When she finished in January, Boaz decided to bring her talents to South Field. While she loves San Diego, Provo has been a perfect fit.
“There was really no reason soccer wise to leave,” Boaz said. “…it just wasn’t right for some reason to finish there, and BYU heard and I had the opportunity to finish here and I was so grateful for that.”
Boaz says she’s enjoying BYU not only because of how well the team is doing, but because it’s a way for her to continue representing the church after her mission.
